A friend, Tammy Maltby, posted this link on Facebook and I cried as I read the article and I have a terrific father. I am praying for all of my friends who have no idea of what a father's love looks and feels like. I hope Bonnie Gray better known as The Faith Barista, will touch your heart in a way that transforms your view of fatherhood and helps you know that when you know Jesus, you do have a Father, who loves you the same way He loves our big brother, Jesus.

Fathers Are Worth Remembering Even If You Don't Have One

In His grip, Sharon

Katie (Mercer) Rivera's Gravatar I also grew up not knowing what an earthly father's love looks and feels like. My father died the month I turned 5, and he was sick for probably two years before that. Our 38-year-old mother was left with six children - my five brothers (ages 18 months to 16 yrs) and me. And little by little, four of my five brothers also left our home...sent away to live in schools for fatherless boys. I could write a book on the fears and other insecurities having no daddy in the home weaves into the personality and the life of a girl. But thanks be to God and to my Junior Church Pastor who lead me to Jesus my Savior at an early age, I was able to grow in grace and in the knowledge of God so that little by little, over time, I was able to understand, accept, and experience His love for me. I make it a point to remember other fathers who are alive and deserve to be remembered and honored on Father's Day. May our LORD bless and help each of them to be the best dads they can be as God the Holy Spirit guides them.

Sharon Betters's Gravatar Thank you, Katie, for such a thoughtful, poignant, timely response. Your story is such a good reminder of the opportunity we have to help turn the heart of a child toward Jesus. We should never shortchange a child's ability to understand His love and her need for a Savior. Also, thank you that you are allowing God to redeem the pain of your early childhood. I think this is a hidden wound for many. When Chuck interviewed Bryan Chappell and asked him what the greatest need of the younger generation is, he responded, "Fathers. They are hungry for a father's love." I think that applies to many older people, too.
