What drives moral failure in adults? In this very practical message Dr. Betters describes three youthful emotions that if left unmastered create a selfish, prideful, fearful grownup whose own needs are primary. A child who does not have borders is usually placated by weary parents who conclude it is better to give him what he wants than to do the work necessary to teach him humility. Parents must learn how to discipline their children in a way that drives out the foolishness bound up in their hearts and prepares them to unselfishly love, honor and protect those in their care.

Did you know that foolishness is wrapped up in the heart of a child? Your children are fools and their friends are fools! Watch a group of teens and you'll see fools leading fools. Teach your child to fear God and the foolishness will fade as you replace childish foolishness with God's wisdom. Proverbs 1 - 9 is a father's manual for teaching a child the fear of God. To be a follower of Christ, we must fear God. If we do not fear God, we are not followers of Christ. To fear God is to stand in awe of Him. To be afraid of God is to run away from Him. We need dads who teach their kids how to fear God biblically, who teach their kids the scriptures and refuse to defer this task to anyone else. We need dads who are convinced that the most important thing they can do for their kids is to wholeheartedly reflect a life that longs to please God. This message will help you achieve that goal.

I am currently preaching through the first nine chapters of Proverbs on the topic, Teaching Them Young - What You Need to Teach Your Kids Before They Reach the Age of 12.
This will be part of a summer-long emphasis on marriage and family. However, this is not a series merely for parents. The core values of Proverbs 1-9 apply to all of us and determine in large part the spiritual depth and maturity of every believer.
