Dead Men Can't Talk
Debby ReavesI am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
Before one dies, he may appoint

someone to be the executor of his estate. The executor is someone in whom that person places his confidence, believing that all he has entrusted to him will be handled carefully and expeditiously. Upon death, the executor begins to act on behalf of the deceased and makes decisions accordingly. He now speaks for the deceased because the deceased can no longer speak for himself. Through death the deceased has abandoned his right to handle his own affairs, thus leaving the executor in the “driver’s seat.”
As I meditate on Galatians 2:20, this is the mental picture I see. When I first trusted Christ to be my personal Savior, I had essentially chosen Him to become “The Executor” of my life. I died to self and am no longer in charge of my affairs. I must remember that my Executor will now speak for me because dead men can’t speak! Since placing my confidence in my Executor, I believe that He will never disappoint me in the handling of my affairs and will always have my best interest at heart.
Jesus Christ is “The Executor” of executors. And, since He is the only One who has perfectly lived out the Christian life, I know that I can confidently take my rightful place in the “back seat” and leave the driving to Him, after all He never lost a passenger, never lost His way, nor is He ever late. He knows the best route and He guarantees us a safe arrival to our destination every time. Jesus is not only the best ever Executor and Chauffeur, but He is also the world’s greatest ventriloquist! He has to be because dead men can’t talk!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to thank you for drawing me to you through the sacrificial death of your Son. You have made Him my “Executor” and I know that I can live my life as one who is dead to self but alive to Christ. May you gently move me to the “back seat” when I forget that I am dead to self and no longer able to run my affairs. May I remember that Jesus is perfectly capable of speaking for me in every situation, and He is able to handle all my affairs in such a way that there will never be any disappointments. I love you, O lord, my Strength. Amen.
Encouragement Tip: When tempted to make your own decisions, meddle, or argue, remember to hold your peace and trust God to handle the matter. “Keep your seat” and commit the situation to the Lord, and see how the matter will fall. You will rejoice when you finally realize that God is a better “driver” than you are.
