Lord please give me a bad memory

And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Having a bad memory is becoming a

conversation piece among the Baby Boomers! I know, because I am a Baby Boomer! It is amazing how we can forget what we were planning to say right in the middle of a statement. And, how about when we get up to do something, we suddenly can’t remember why we got up, let alone where we are going! Sometimes I have to treat my memory with a little humor.

Although forgetfulness is a constant reminder of the aging process, I can see how it could be quite useful in the area of forgiveness.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to pray that God would give us a bad memory when someone offends us. It is amazing how sharp our memory becomes when we suffer an insult, grief, or pain at the hand of another. We can give a detailed and clear account of everything that was said and done months and even years later.

How nice it would be if we would remember to pray to forget.

I remember a time when someone offended me by lying about me to someone else. Although I was deeply hurt, God enabled me to forget the incident in such a way that when the offender later apologized, I had to be reminded of what had happened. I would love to say that I always forget, but unfortunately, that was an exceptional case!

Our heavenly Father is such a wonderful example of forgiving and forgetting our sins all the time. Let's practice praying that God will help us forget the transgressions of those who have offended us.

The next time we are violated, let's remember to come down with a severe case of amnesia! Now that's a prayer request God would love to grant!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to imitate you by releasing others who have hurt us. Work in us the will to forget those things that are so easy for us to remember. This can only be possible as we allow you to do through us what we cannot do ourselves. Remind us of our own shortcomings so that we can be more merciful to those who have offended us. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
