For Moms of School Age Children

Sharon Betters

Sharon BettersNo matter what kind of school your children attend – public, Christian, private, Homeschool – the fall season can be so hectic moms forget to model the kindness we want our own children to reflect. Character is often caught rather than taught. Some practical, little ways to not only make your children feel special and loved:

Greet your children in the morning with a hug and "how did you sleep?" rather than, "Hurry, hurry, hurry – we're late!"

Surprise your child with a love note or a small treasure that says, "You're special!"

Have a snack ready when they get home and take a few minutes to help them transition into the family life by asking questions about their day – be specific in your questions! Ask questions that require more than a yes or no answer!

Just these little additions will help create a sense of kindness in your home. One of the kindest things you can do for your children, is to prepare in the evening for the next day, making sure clothes are ready, lunches are packed, homework is in the backpack and mommy gets a good night’s sleep! And even better is when mommy can spend a few minutes in prayer and reading a devotional or scripture that reminds her of God's kindness!
