Author biography
Dr. Chuck Betters, an ordained pastor since 1969, has served in a variety of cultural settings including the inner city during the seventies. Chuck likes to say he cut his teeth in ministry on the streets of Philadelphia. For his entire career he has focused on not only the “thus says the Lord” aspects of scripture but also the “so what” of scripture – the practical exercise of Biblical truth. Chuck’s uncompromising style has led thousands over the years to appreciate his holistic approach to Biblical preaching and teaching – what Chuck likes to call the “blue denim and lace” balance between the truth (logos) of the scriptures, its ethical demands (ethos), and the great passion (pathos) with which he presents it. Chuck and his wife Sharon have been married since 1969. They have four children. Their youngest son, Mark, was safely deposited in heaven when he was killed in a car accident in 1993. Chuck says of this tragedy that, “God, in His sovereignty, scorched my life in such a way that He unbolted me from my love affair with this world.” Their two older sons, Chuck and Dan, serve in full-time pastoral ministry on his staff where he is the Senior Pastor of the Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Glasgow, Delaware. Their only daughter, Heidi, is a mother to five children and serves as the event coordinator for MARKINC Ministries, the media arm of Chuck’s preaching and teaching ministry. Chuck and Sharon have 14 grandchildren. One of Chuck’s most favorite seasons of life was when he and Sharon were raising their kids. Another favorite season is the present where he and Sharon revel in the joy of grandkids. It is to these precious jewels that Chuck has dedicated this book in the hope and prayer that they will embrace the great proverbs of scripture this book espouses and their parents are teaching them. Chuck often says that the development of a successful spiritual legacy will not be fully realized until we see what kind of children our children raise. Teaching Them Young, The Hidden Treasures of the Proverbs is Chuck’s special contribution to his children’s efforts in this great spiritual journey.
