Loving Someone You Don't Like

Dr. Chuck Betters

Dr. Betters,
How do I love someone I don't like? Someone with whom I have to spend time several times a year, especially around the holidays?

Debbie

Pastor Betters responds:

Debbie,

By seeing them through the eyes of Christ. That is, by realizing this is a person for whom Christ died. Thus, their worth to Him is very high. Also, we take our eyes off their faults, focus more on our own. When we do this we will wonder why Christ ever died for us. It puts the sins of others into perspective when have a clear view of our own. This is not easy since loving the unlovable usually means we have to interact with them a lot, thus those sins in them are magnified. But Christ died for us while we were yet sinners, His enemies. How great is that love?

In His Grip,
Dr. Chuck Betters
