Sex Outside Marriage
Dr. Chuck BettersDr. Betters,
I would like to know more about what God's teaching is on sex outside of marriage and living together.
Pastor Betters responds:
Any sexual relationship outside of marriage is considered immoral and contrary to God's law. In our culture many people have chosen to live together instead of marrying. This is not only a violation of scripture but it also a clear indication that the love necessary to make for a marriage that is honoring to God is absent. A man or a woman who loves their mate would never do anything or encourage them to do anything that would injure their relationship to the God of the universe. If a couple is living together they should repent of this immorality and receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Once that is done they should immediately change the living arrangements by separating. If marriage is in the offing then they should enter a strong Biblical pre-marital counseling format to insure they are indeed marrying the right person. I am of the firm conviction that a marriage cannot work if there is no trust - the kind of trust that does not have its bags packed. And, that is precisely what a "common-law" relationship is. I hope this helps.
In His Grip,
Dr. Chuck Betters
