The Sabbath & Three Days in the Grave
Dr. Chuck BettersDear Dr. Betters,
Why is the Sabbath on the first day of the week? And is there any significance for Christ being in the grave for Friday, Saturday and Sunday? Three days (why not four or why not two?)
Thanks,
Jesse
Pastor Betters responds:
Dear Jesse,
Why is the Sabbath on the first day of the week? It represents the new covenant as the first day of the week. It is the end of the old and the beginning of the new. The old was the 7th day, so the new is the eighth day or the first day.
Is there any significance for Christ being in the grave for Friday, Saturday and Sunday? It was the Passover and the Sabbath when Jesus died. He is the perfect Passover lamb. That is why he was crucified during Passover and just before the Sabbath.
Three days (why not four or why not two?) To fulfill the prophecy He made that, “just as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days, so also the Son of man will remain in the heart of the earth for three days.
In His Grip,
Dr. Chuck Betters
