Do we find marriages that are not "joined together" by God?

Dr. Chuck Betters

Do we find marriages that are not "joined together" by God?

Dr. Betters Responds:

Marriage is very sacred. Ending a marriage without a biblical cause cannot be blessed of God. And those causes are very narrow. Divorce is allowable if your spouse commits adultery or if your spouse leaves the marriage. These are the only allowable grounds for divorce. Thus, to marry one who divorced for grounds other than one of those two is to enter a marriage not blessed by God. That is, if you marry someone who has been divorced for any grounds other than adultery or desertion, the ONLY two grounds that allow for divorce in scripture, you marry outside of the Lord. God will not bless that marriage. But, once married, you must not compound that sin with another sin by divorcing your spouse. You must remain married to that person and bear out the consequences. Forced marriages, like the kids from the polygamist cult recently in the news, would be a marriage not recognized by God and should be legally ended. In fact, it would be a marriage consummated as a rape. I hope this helps.
