What a Difference a Week Makes!

Chuck waiting to go home!

Chuck waiting to go home!

Since my update on Chuck last week, a lot has happened! He was moved from the rehab center to the hospital for treatment of extensive blood clots. The treatment requires careful oversight since his surgeon was concerned about the possibility of a brain bleed if the anti-coagulants were not carefully balanced.

Each day Chuck looks more like himself, stays awake longer and navigates the room with a little more confidence. We just learned he can go home today, twenty-seven days after we left for his surgery in Pittsburgh. His doctors agree: Home is the best medicine and we expect his recovery to take off. We are so grateful for the hundreds of people praying for Chuck’s recovery. Please don’t stop!

We’re hoping Chuck will be well enough to attend MARKINC's Spring Benefit "MARKINC in Motion" on the evening of Thursday, June 8 where we will enjoy hearing an inspiring message from Peter Rosenberger.

A few days before Chuck’s surgery, he interviewed Peter Rosenberger, author of Hope for Caregivers and 7 Caregiver Landmines and How You Can Avoid Them and co-founder of Standing with Hope.

I interviewed, Peter’s wife, Gracie, a beautiful woman whose car accident as a 17 year old almost took her life, and eventually took both her legs (I introduced blog readers to Gracie and Peter in this post , Through it All.

Both interviews, produced by MARKINC Ministries, will offer help and hope to care givers and to those who are facing ongoing medical mountains that seem impossible to cross.

Peter’s humor and candor helped prepare me for the past few weeks of caring for Chuck when he couldn’t care for himself.  So it’s with great delight that we are welcoming Peter as our speaker at our MARKINC in Motion Spring Benefit on June 8. This event is designed to celebrate what the Lord is doing through MARKINC as well as to raise funds to enable us to continue to offer help and hope to hurting people. Please join us for this free event which includes dinner, door prizes, inspiring messages and a powerful presentation by Peter Rosenberger. Make your reservations HERE

Following is Peter’s bio from his website. Bringing Peter to our MARKINC In Motion event is a gift to everyone who attends. I can’t wait to introduce him to you!

Peter Rosenberger: Speaker, Author, Radio Talk Show Host, Caregiver to Gracie
With his characteristically contagious and outrageous humor, Peter Rosenberger often tells his radio audience that he is the "Crash-test Dummy of Caregivers!"

For the past 30 years, radio host, author, speaker, accomplished pianist, and black belt in Hapkido, Peter has personally traveled the path of the family caregiver. His wisdom and insight are hard won, and wryly shares that he "...has had ample time to make virtually every mistake one can make as a caregiver!"

In an unparalleled journey with his wife Gracie, he has navigated a medical nightmare that has mushroomed to 78 operations, the amputation of both of Gracie's legs, treatment by more than 60 doctors in 12 hospitals, 7 medical insurance companies, and $9 million in medical bills.

This experience unquestionably qualifies him as an expert as a caregiver and has made him a most ardent champion for the family caregiver, providing him with an astonishing understanding of health care issues and a deep compassion for others. His infectious humor and candor brings freshness, hope and laughter into the painful places of caregiving. He regularly speaks on a wide range of topics that include healthcare and finances, caregivers in the workplace, facing adversity, thriving as a caregiver, and family relationships.

Earning a Bachelor of Music from Belmont University, Peter is an accomplished pianist and often incorporates his expressive style of music into his presentations as he entertains, inspires, and challenges audiences from all walks of life.

Since 2013, he has carried his message of health and hope for the caregiver to the airwaves, hosting his own weekly show on 1510 WLAC (IHEART) in Nashville. His latest book, Hope for the Caregiver (Worthy Inspired, October 2015) provides practical tools and encouragement for the caregiver. The book soon heads to a fourth printing, and it also recently returned for a third time to #1 caregiving book on Kindle.

Targeting America's 65+ million family caregivers, Peter founded Caregivers with Hope, with the goal of not just making family caregivers feel better, but offering them the tools and empowerment to be better. Drawing upon Peter's 30 years of experience as a caregiver, Caregivers with Hope offers clear, proven, strategies and tools to guide caregivers towards a healthier lifestyle in every facet of their life.

In addition, Caregivers with Hope provides invaluable tools to counselors, clergy, medical practitioners, employers and businesses faced with addressing the needs of the caregiver. Peter also serves as the president of Standing with Hope Inc., a nonprofit evangelical prosthetic limb outreach to developing countries.
Peter and Gracie reside in Nashville, TN.

Peter's lengthy media credits include USA Today, The Today Show, Fox News, Guideposts Magazine, AARP, BBC World News, and many more. He and Gracie founded Standing With Hope - a non-profit prosthetic limb outreach to amputees in West Africa.
